Hi, I have recently purchased a 1997 E230 estate (W210) which does not have the owners handbook. I am trying to get one thru a MB dealer, but they are useless at getting back to me........so anyway a couple of questions.......

I have a button on the dash which shows a 2 pictures of a car, one with the back lifted off the ground with what looks like a hook and the other with it flat on the ground with what looks like a interior sensor or light on. Anyway this switch toggles on and off something but what ? (I just know as soon as someone says what it is....i'm going to be going ahhhhh...of course...it's obvious now....I should have known....but hey!)

Next question is, my car has air con, but how do you switch it off as it always seems to be on. (my old car had a switch which was off/economy/on) Is it as simple as when you turn the rotary dials to cool it kicks in. Also can anyone confirm that the EC button is the economy mode for the a/c when the light is on ?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry you can't get an instruction book -keep trying! In the meantime, the button with two pics of a car on it switches different parts of the alarm off when you don't need them. Press the top part to switch OFF the tow-away alarm (if you need the car to be towed with the front raised, for example). Press the bottom part to switch off the interior sensor (if you are leaving children or a dog inside, and don't want the alarm to go off).

Only works when you have stopped the engine and taken the key out. You'll then see a little red light flashing in the switch to confirm. Automatically resets next time you activate the central locking/alarm.

To switch the aircon off, press the button in the centre of the console, marked econ (or something similar). Simple as that!

Enjoy your car!
