What's this

Hi can anyone explain what this is and what it's for it's at the back of the engine near to the battery.
It's a w212 2.1 cdi auto 2012 plate if that helps.

Hard to tell but I'll guess it's the swirl flap actuator or boost control actuator.
Really depends what it's attached to where it disappears from view.

So by any chance is that actuator suppose to make any noise like a pop sound when you rev the engine
