Whats your Favourite engine oil?

Does anyone have any favourite engine oil they prefer or have experienced aiding longevity to their MB engines?

I guess fully synthetic is preferred?

Favourite Oil

You only get what you pay for.
I use Mobile 1.
I drain down and flush through from the drain plug till it runs out clean.
Sucking out from the dipstick hole is a quick main dealer garage method, and I personally do not like it.

There are only a few refineries and lots of brands of oils, so you can work out that different brands come from the same refinery and are bottled at the same time.

As long as you are getting a recognised name there should be no problems. Mobil 1 is only well known and very expensive because of the amount of advertising, Comma, Shell, Castrol also do very good Mobil 1 equivalents but much cheaper.

Sucking the oil out through the dipstick is actually a very good way of changing the oil. I personally always preferred to drain the oil out from the bottom but since having to get an extractor for the Smart I shall be using it on my own car too. You will never get all the old oil out, some will always be left in the pipes, oil cooler and galleries. Best to refill with a cheap flushing oil, run engine for a few minutes and then drain again, this will dilute any old oil left.

Modern oils are much cleaner than they used to be and there should not be any need for additives or flushing unless the engine has been neglected.

used mobil1 for ages, after advice on the forum have changed to a semi synthetic which has had the following effect: no more drops in oil pressure when the oil gets hot!!
so long as its changed regularly (mine every 6k) its better than the mobil 1 in my old engine

ps: dont try it with duckhams, i cooked the last lot i put in in under a thousand miles.

i tend to use 10w/40 semi-synthetic oil called syntha from german and swedish-as long as you do yearly oil changes,you should have no problem.

syntha oil is up to spec for mercs,bmws,vw ,porsche,and audi and other car makes as well.

i use this oil in the c200 and merc 190e

Car ('94 220D) has been serviced by my local Merc Dealer since new, up to 70k they used Castrol Synthetic Diesel Oil, but since then they have used Mobil 1 ..... car now has 109k on the clock and the engine is still very smooth (for an old style Diesel and it doesn't burn any oil either). I also don't rev it above about 2000 rpm 'til it warms up, I guess that can make a difference ?

I would agree with the other posts that you very definetely get what you pay for when it comes to engine oil, I have used all sorts in the cars I have had from the cheap old bangers I had when younger to my last non-merc a 200hp Rover 800 Vittesse Turbo Sport, the Rover was thrashed across europe for 3 years accumalating 125k miles from new running on Mobil 1 and I never had any trouble with turbo bearings, hydraulic lifters any engine issues etc (however other things not associated with the engine kept falling off with alarming regularity so I am now glad I have a Merc !)

Whats your favourite engine oil

For diesel engines, try Millers XFE. Very highly recommended.
