Wheel Alignment with ESP

I have a C200 (year 2000) Auto salon. The front tyres are wearing out on the outside - the left more than the right (driver side), although the car doesn't pull (apart from the bit due to the raod camber) to one side or the other. I took it to the local tyre place but they won't touch it because the car has ESP which they said needs to be recalibrated if they adjust the alignment. KwikFit also refused to do it. Both advised that I should go to MB main dealer, who want £145, which seems like a lot of money for wheel alignment.
What is this about? Does everybody with ESP have to go to the main dealer? Is there a cheaper alternative near Marlow (Bucks)?

I dont know what they are talking about with ESP - then again I doubt they did either. Other than making sure the steering wheel is straight which they need to do anyway, the esp shouldn't be an issue. Kwikifit also refused to do mine. As I understand it, it has to be 4 wheel alignment and possibly weighted down too (based on my 210). The alignment isn't straight forward but it isn't a merc only job either. i had mine done at a local tyre fitter for £20 (dealer £200+) and the car is a different class now. The did weight the car down by putting sacks of cement in the boot! - may not be in the merc manual but clearly does the trick!
I would ring round the independent tyre places, especially the ones that look after the GTI boys. they tend to know what they are talking about and will give you a straight answer, but no you don't need to go to the stealer.
