Hello All,

I've just managed to pick up a very nice Jersey 1996 C280 with a little over 60K on the clock.

The previous owner has pulled off the wheel arch trim pieces (that were black rubber, I think) - there's no rust but the paint is a little chewed up from the adhesive and I'd like to replace them with something other than the chrome bling that I see advertised...

I'm not sure these were stock protectors but is there a color-matched alternative or even another black aftermarket replacement (ie, without going through MB to find them)?

Thanks in advance,
MikeE

And welcome to another member from the South :D

As far as I know there were only the stainless ones and I have never seen a plastic / rubber version

Welcome, Quickbrit.

Clean off the adhesive and get the paint tidied up, Mike. I personally think wheel arch covers look hideous.
Usually fitted to cover up rust. If you don't have rust - share your arches with the world!!

Don't forget to post up a picture, by the way.

W202 never came with them as standard.

Whole heartedly agree with doversole (although I couldn't eat a whole one). Arch covers are not everyone's taste and must offer the possibility of concealing mischief as it develops unseen - typically corrosion.

Nice to pick up a low mileage car like that, but you will find using it will improve it lots, especially suspension compliance, throttle action and auto gearchange - they love to be used and will perk up perceptibly when taken out for a good run.

Great choice - pictures welcome.

Back in the 60's people had them fitted from new on the 113's and as they had chrome bumpers and lots of chrome trim they did look good,, time passes by and hardly any chrome and they start to look out of place

Have a cigar, AMG!

IMO - clean and unmolested, low mileage examples of W202 are getting harder to find.
Two years ago - I looked at six before finding mine, eventually struck gold with my one-owner, 68k Elegance.

The Jersey air must be 'rust unfriendly' - so Mike's a lucky man.

Thanks for the advice guys...

I think you are all right - it looks better without them, I just need to step up and get some minor paintwork to make them perfect.

Hi,
Your C class could have come with these from the factory as standard, if they were made of rubber, they were "normally" fitted with vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory, though I have seen them on vehicles with 15" rims.
They are still available from MB but are approx. £50 per arch.
But at that price, and only being stuck on people have completely removed them.
