Yes it is still the wheel balancing if you can drive into the shake and out of it again

had the rebalance done at kwick fit today....they suggested the front wheels so i said away you go and yes it was out - (so guys tyremaster of Bradford made some kind of mistake). After this was done took the car for a drive along the M606 and was better, still some vibrations at 60 - 70 but not too bad and again smooth after 70 - 120. I decided i get the rear wheels balanced and maybe the slight vibrations mentioned would go, so again kwick fit and they did the rear, this time the guy didnt get exactly 0 it was 5 out i asked about that but he said dont need to worry as you wont be able to tell.

Now I had a trip planned for birmingham and off we went....got to 65 and vibrations again.... at 70 was a little smoother.....then got worse as the speed went up.....

Now am confused and not sure what it could be.....

any help welcome.

Thanks

Peversely, the fact that rebalancing the tyres helps is a good thing - it suggests that you should be able to cure the problem by balancing.

A couple of suggestions;

Find somewhere that does a "road load" balance where the geometry of the tyre as well as its mass properties are included in the balance

Consider an in-situ balance where any imbalance in the hub is also balanced out, as the wheel remains on the car.

It's fairly simple o check for a buckled wheel yourself.

If you jack the car up, and then set up a fixed pointer against the rim, and turn the wheel, any buckling will be obvious. Ideally, you want the rims to have less than 0.5mm of runout.

I noticed the Kwikfit did not balance wheels well when I had new tyres, they spin the wheel, stick the weights on, and thats it, they should keep spinning till they come up perfect.

If a wheel was buckled this should have shown up on the balancer

Only if the operator checked for it.

If not, the dynamics of the mass irregularity caused by the buckle could be corrected by adding masses on the machine, but, the vibration would still occur, becuae the wheel wouldn't be running true on the car.

rite thats my job for tonight to check the wheels myslft. Ive also noticed when i brake at high speed over 80 there are vibrations from the rear (rear discs??) and if they are warped then maybe the vibrations can be coming from them even under normal driving?

Shaking when breaking hard and not under normal braking is usually a rear disc, this is due to to braking effect where 72% goes to the front wheels and 28% to the rear, so it needs a hard push to show the rears up

I personally wouldnt even take a bicycle tyre to quick fit after I went to get a slow puncture repaired ,
They were new tyres 2weeks old and the young lad went out to my car and checked each wheel in turn then said 'come here sir ' look that tyre is made on the 16th month of 2002 :rolleyes: hahaha I said there iare only 12 months in a year :confused: he said oh year but the other 3 tyres are low on tread and it would be best to change them all :mad: I then went for the manager, and went a bit off it in front of about 7 customers I explained what had been said and asked for an explanation as the tyres only had a few hundred miles on , they could not answer :rolleyes: 5 of the customers walked out how many more scams have they ? I only went in for a slow puncture , what a bunch of puppets
