Hello everything

My old mercedes C180 2012 recently had a serious problem while driving.
I went to local garage and they didn’t find any error codes.

The issue is: When I started to drive, as long as I accelerated the car wheel will locked up for few seconds and all error lights on. Also the front and rear lights turned off and then come back in seconds. After that the car become normal.

Does anyone saw the same issues?

Thanks

Hello and welcome,

Which wheel?

Generic code readers can't interrogate a lot of Mercedes systems - which is why your probably why your error hasn't shown up.

Yes thats how it works, receptionists are not technically trained.

The steering wheel will appear to "lock-up" if you have no power steering. Are you sure that when this occurs that the engine is still running?

Agreed. Sounds like a total loss of electrical power.

sorry for the late reply.
I went local Mercedes main dealer, they charged me 144£ and checked everything is fine.
However, the issue came out few days later. I called main dealer and they said I need pay another 144£ to inspect further.

After I start the engine and ready to go, If I accelerate to 15mph, it will locked and all lights shown up. It appears for few seconds then It has no issues.

When you take it back to Mercedes dealer leave it over night and next day be there when it is first driven take the technician for a ride with his star plugged in. This will give them an insight to what is happening and a fault as bad as you are describing should register on the diagnostic's scanner.

I thought they fix the problem at first time as the engine light was fixed. They also tested drive about 20mins as no fault been detected.
After few days, the problem came back.
For the first appointment, I’ve been waited for 2months to get the slot. It takes too long to diagnose again. I don’t know why they are so busy.
Also the issue happened randomly, sometimes happened and sometimes didn’t show up.
For the second diagnosis, I might wait another two months. So I try my luck at here.

If you can advise on your location, one of the members may be able to recommend a Mercedes independent specialist.

Anyone recommend a good indie near Norwich?

quick look shows:
Benz autos
STR
Merc-Pro

All near you and claim to be MB indies. I have never used any of them but hopefully one of the other forum members near you will be able to advise which is best.

This may not be related.
Had a similar issue with my W163, all dash lights would come on, steering stiff, engine had cut out. Restarted, no problem. This happened about 4 times over a period of two months. (loss of power steering)
A lucky find was that the collar that screws down tight on to the ignition switch had worked loose. I tightened it up by hand and the issue never came back (its been three years now) I suspect as the ignition was loose it was loosing contact with whatever it reads, hence total shut down.
I may not have explained this correctly, but check the ignition switch is tight in its location.

I tried to do it but that’s not working , I plan to sell the car to dealer as they can’t find the problem as well.
