Good afternoon.

This week I had a flat on my 2009 m class350 and experienced real problems putting the spare on. Supplied socket did not work. Had to get garage out to do it.
I was told I need the special mercedes alloy wheel bolt socket and a bigger bar but when I look on websites for the 17mm socket I find alot of the specialist sockets (convex flower) but they specifically do say they will fit the M class. They say they will fit the s class, c class and maybach. Will thissocket fit my M class 350. Thanks

If you’ve managed to get the locking wheel bolt off count yourself lucky...

You should have a small plastic case with the locking wheel bolt adaptor and 4 normal wheel bolts. Remove the locking wheel bolts and replace with normal bolts.

The locking bolts have a tendency to seize on (get over tightened by dealers and tyre shops) which mangles both the adaptor an bolt. This leaves you in a world of pain.

where did the OP/Neil mention locking wheel bolts?
The standard wheel bolts on my 14 plate ML have the 'flower' shaped bolts but they all have a stainless cap on them, trouble is, the rattle guns used at tyre places have loosened them & when they fall off, it means the 17mm socket is a bit too big. This is what it seems like Neil's problem is ..... ???

08/59 W164’s are hex head as standard not a ‘flower‘ shape.

If you have this type of wheel bolt locking key set .Then you need to pull them remove them and replace them before you have trouble also ..Made of cheese materials .I know cost me £150 to have them removed from my car .

Merc have an array of these locking bolts each specially numbered
I had a flat and couldn't find the locking nut (****** thing must have forget to check it was replaced by my tyre place prevous). In the end the garage had to use a special tool to get them out. I got them to take them all out and replaced with standard. No one rarely nicks wheels now do they. Touch wood. My trye place is usually v good and uses a torque wrench on the nuts.
Reminds me need to do the same on my W251 (replace the locking nuts and the rest as they are going rusty) when the garages are open and I am not so relucatant to make such trips given corona.

Good for you . Under normal use ,,by the owner they are ok but once the car gets tyre , or wheel work the socket just wont stand up to the force the tyre shop put on them.

Thanks for all the replies, however I may not have made my problem clear and apologies for that. Getting the locking wheel nut was not a problem, I did that, it was all the other bolts I could not do which is when I was told I need a mercedes alloy wheel nut socket but when doing a search on ebay etc I can not find one that specifically says its for an m class. Thanks

Something like this from Amazon or eBay?

Just decide which set you want.

Can you take a picture of one to show us. Apart from the locking bolt, the other 4 per wheel are standard 17mm hex. Perhaps someone replaced them all with a different type of security bolt.

This is what I have, contains a 21mm, 17mm & 16mm , by what the op mentions I think someone has put a 16mm on.
I like these as I can keep separate from my other sockets and the barrels are slim line enough to fit any alloy wheel nut recess and being coated means they don't damage the wheels either.....
Edit : sorry I've a 19mm one too of course

The OP probably has wheel bolts like this
lg_46ca74b8-6d7e-4f6a-8473-0d38f6906a29.jpg

As well as damage by bolt guns at tyre fitters, there's also the problem that over time the bolt rusts and the stainless cap expands making it almost impossible to fit the MB toolkit wrench.
They cost in the region of £10 each from MB!
I use a Bahco socket that has convex faces so that it doesn't put pressure on the corners but on the 'flats' it seems to fit more easily than a standard hex socket..

That's what I suggested in post #4 ....
