Evening all.
Just trying to work out whether the wheels on my W220 are the correct offset.
I believe the wheels are from a W204 C class, fitted by a previous owner. Looking on the Alloy Wheels Direct website I've found that they are AMG IV wheels,

Front Wheels: 8Jx18 ET50 (p/n B66031382 - A2044014102)
Rear Wheels: 8.5Jx18 ET54 (p/n B66031383 - A2044014202)

Now the equivalent 18 inch diameter W220 wheels seem to have offsets of 44 front, and 46 rear, or thereabouts depending on type, so my question is, are the wheels fitted at the moment sitting in the correct positions?

I have tried looking at these online offset calculators, but keep getting a headache!

At first glance the wheels fitted will be sitting further inwards than standard but this may be necessary to clear bodywork. Fortunately if you want to correct the offset you can fit spacers (5mm front and 10mm rear do it).

Thanks for the reply, Lostkiwi, now I understand the way the numbers go! The wheels do indeed look as though they sit too far in, so maybe a little correction is in order.

Yes, the lower the number (ET) the further out the wheel will sit. If you do buy some spacers, just make sure they are 'hubcentric' ones. I have always chose to use brands such as H&R when going down this route and never had any issues.

The car is having it's wheels refurbed at the moment, so I'm going to ask them about this when I pick it up. They seem very knowledgeable.

I would be using a 10mm front and 15mm rear spacer to get your wheels to sit where they should.

Spacers are sold in pairs so you would need a 20mm kit and a 30mm kit.

As has been said H&R are superb, you will also need longer bolts so measure the thread length then add the spacer thickness to get the correct size

Why fit bigger than needed? The error in offset is 6mm and 8mm respectively per wheel. 10mm and 15mm will push the wheel out as much as it's in currently.

Loads of room in those arches, I am not a fan of Spacers thinner than 10mm (I used to sell them) you need a decent thickness to get them hubcentric and secure

Just thought I'd update this after having the wheels refurbed. For now I'm going to leave things as they are, the chap who did the refurb said he didn't think the difference in offset was worth worrying about, unless I wanted to 'fill' the arches out a bit.
I'm not sure I can be bothered with that to be honest, as the car has had just about every suspension bush and arms changed over the last few months, and after having an alignment done it's driving superbly, so I'm going to enjoy it for a while as it is.
As an aside, every wheel had to be straightened, one of the reasons I wanted them done as I could feel the vibrations through the steering after having 2 new tyres on the front recently.
One of the rears had to be welded up as it was really smashed up on the inside rim and split when it was straightened.
