I have an E230 avantgarde estate (1997) and am looking to replace my wheels with new wheels of the same design. I note some wheels have different offsets? my wheels are currently 7.5Jx16H2ET41. I assume the 7.5J is the rim width, the 16 is the rim diameter and I assume that he 41 is the offset. Does anyone know what the H2ET stands for?
Would wheels with an offset of 35 be ok? what is meant by offset?

The number for the offset is ET41 in your case, the offset is the distance from the face of the backplate to the center of the wheel exspressed in mm.
If you use wheels with ET35 it would mean that the wheel is sitting 6mm in, so your total track width would decrease by 12mm or ½" that's passable, just.
Clive will give his view.
