I have happened across a set of 16" Mercedes 16 hole alloys

Part number 129 400 01 02
size 8J x 16 ET34

a few questions

1, any idea what they were originally fitted to?
2, can they be persuded to fit my 1989 230TE? which has a stock wheel size
of 6 1/2J x 15 ET48
3, I realise the offsets are different - would the width of the wheel
dictate the need for a different offset or would I need to use spacers?
4, the stud pattern/spacing is the same but are the diameters of the bolt
holes the same as my W124 wheels

Thanks in anticipation of your replies

Looks like the wheels are off an SL (129) if so, the offset is out and I dont think they'll fit on your W124.

I sold a set of 8x17" wheels to a guy with a lowered W124, and the offset was ET35, so I can't see a problem with them fitting.
Ask to try them first.
Also if those wheels are what I am thinking they are, then I've seen them fitted to 190's, so should fit.

thanks guys for the replys,

Spike - according to a wheel tech, the offset is fine as it needs to change with wheel width - he even offered me a conversion table :) and several people have fitted the same wheels to W124s with no problems so it looks like they will fit. Check your private messages Spike as I've sent you one

barrie - as for asking to try them first :) at the price these came to me at there was never going to be a "try it first option" I was offered the wheels for £40 (less than $60) for the set. Virtually unmarked (one has a very slight kerbing mark on the outer rim and one has a surface scratch which will (polish out) near the centre cap. So I just opened the rea hatch door and loaded them in figuring I'd ask questions later.

I may stand corrected but I did hear that the SL wheels dont fit on a W124. Interested to see if I am wrong though.

yeah, I had heard exactly the same thing Spike, which is why I was asking the question before I started messing about changing wheels around :)

I thought the problem was to do with the diameter of the bolt thread, it being larger on the W129, but checking through one aftermarket catalogue all the wheel bolts appear to be the same diameter (I'll verify that with the dealers tomorrow). If there is a difference in bolt diameter it should just be a case of sleeving the bore of the hole (again an aftermarket item) which costs pennies.

I'll have a decent look tomorrow afternoon weather permitting.

Thanks

I don't blame you at that price!!!

I think they used them as standard wheels on the EVO1, and I was looking out for a set as they look quite good if they are clean.

beat you to them Barrie.

I saw them on ebay - the advert just said Mercedes Wheels. I was the only bidder at £60. When I went to collect them the girl selling them said she was sorry she couldn't find the wheel studs so I could have the wheels for £40.
