Hi all. I wonder if someone can help point me in the right direction. I have changed the front wheel bearing bearing on my 2007 E280 and now the wheel speed sensor on that wheel is not working. My launch diagnostics says to check the distance of the sensor to the rotor. Is that adjustable and what is the rotor. I didn’t remove the sensor to do the job. Gould the rotor be part of the bearing or seal itself or perhaps the hub. I’m wondering what I might have done wrong. Thank you in advance for my advice you may be able to give.

The rotor is American for brake disc.

Chances are its the seal pick up ring that's giving errors.

Did you replace the races also.

If you over tighten the nut to close the gap sensor to pick up ring your new bearings won't last long, how much green grease did you put in ??

It is very sensitive to gap.

Thank you. So the sensor is in the rear seal is it? I packed the new bearings with the green grease and cleaned out all the old stuff from between the bearings and put in a similar amount to what I took out. I tensioned the bearings carefully by spinning the hub as I gently tightened them then backed them off in till they felt just right and nice and free with very little play. I did buy the cheaper bearing kit from eurocarparts. I wonder if this could be my problem? Do you have any experience with those?
Thank you again for your valuable advice

The sensor sits adjacent to the pick up ring, seal.in the leg. Aftermarket kits usually don't work to good.

Thank you one for the road. I see the sensor sits in the leg. Is the ring in the actual seal then? Do you think I should only use parts from the main dealer?
Very kind of you to share your experience with me
Cheers

I had this very recently with a Febi W211 front wheel bearing kit. I bought a genuine seal (the sensor pick up is contained in them) and it worked fine from then.

Hi everyone. Thank you all so much for your help with my wheel bearing speed sensor issue.
I went to Mercedes dealer and bought a genuine seal. Fitted that and all was good with my ABS etc. I’m not sure if I had knocked the replacement seal in too far, in fact I think that could have been the case ( I didn’t know the seal should remain flush with the back edge of the hub.) it’s flush now and it works. It’s a genuine seal now though too. It’s great that there is a willing and helpful community here to offer advice and help each other though and I’m grateful to those who did help me. Drive safe and have fun
