Hi All. Just aquired some original alloys for my 97 C 180 classic, am i right in thinking i need to use different length studs to the ones used to secure the steel wheels i have on at present, or is this just on later models?

Hi geoff, it depends on the wheels, on some wheels the taper goes up to the rear face on others the hole is what we call counter bored, one way to check is to put the bolt into the steel wheel and measure how much comes through at the rear, do the same with the alloy wheel and you will have the answer.

Any questions ,come back.

I know on all models up to '96 at least the alloy bolts are longer and of a different construction than the steel wheel bolts... I presume this is still the case...

You need wheel bolts part number a0009901007. They come in bags of 10.

on my C220 (1995) the Mercedes alloys have different studs to the steel wheels (summer/winter wheel sets), however I haven't measured them to see if there's a length difference....

so I think the answer (based on the replies here) is yes, but to be sure, ask your MB dealer

cheers

We still do not know if the wheels are of a later type where the bolts are much shorter, normally about 20mm should stick out of the back when the bolt is in the hole.
MB charge almost £2 each against other suppliers £1
