Upgrading from steel rims with 205/55R16 Dunlop SP 3000e (on 2005 C-Class Classic) to original MB alloys with Conti Sport Contact 2's: front 225/45R17 and rear 245/40R17

Question i have is will this upgrade fit my car? Getting a very good price on the alloys/tyres so hoping all will be ok

Thanks

yes this should be fine, hope you choose right wheel, as the alloy is the mod which makes or breaks a car,

Yea that fitment sounds right for any C class. Why dont you go for 18" as they suit the car so much better. Even though the ones you thinking of buying are wider at back which will suit your C class.

Just a tip: Previously on my C-Class (W202) and currently on my E-Class (W210) I have the same size wheels front and back. That way I can swap the tyres around as and when they wear. This is much more beneficial on the E because the fronts really take a hammering on the inner edges.

I thought I'd mention it, just in case.

One more point. My C-Class drove much better on the steel wheels than it ever did on the 18" alloys. I think you're right to consider the 17" as an option not only because of the ride quality but also because of the cost of the tyres. Having said that, the C (W202) does look good on 18" rims. Not sure about the W203.

Appreciate everyone's input and advice. Wheels are purchased and fitted now. Looking very good though i little high...should i get the suspension lowered??

Also noticed though that on full left lock the o/s front tyre seems to be rubbing but no problems when full lock right...any ideas whats happening here? High speed stability and ride has improved. Around town suspension seems firmer and little bumps are felt more than when i had the steels on..is this to be expected i wonder?

What you are experiencing is the reduced sidewall flex of the lower profile tyres. The suspension itself is unchanged.
It is strange how fitting low profile tyres (that still have the same overall diameter as the originals) always end up looking as if the gap from tyre to arch has increased.
It's fairly simple to reduce the ride height just change the suspension buffers for ones with fewer "ribs"
The Avantgarde is lowered approx 2" compared to the Classic. All standard MB parts
