When I saw the thread title, I thought you were talking about dodgy roadside car sales. I can't find the link now, but I saw a decidedly iffy C class estae being advertised and sold from the roadside in Autotrader from an address (well a street on an insustrial estate) in Luton.

The seller also had a website, so I had a nose around and it only gives a mobile number and no fixed address - would you really want to buy a vehicle from him, I wouldn't.

There's a quite a few scams on autotrader. I saw one for a range rover, too cheap to be true and it was.. ad said dont phone me send e-mail, so just out of interest i did using hotmail account. Got a reply from a google mail account, Claiming to be a woman doctor who has had to leave the country suddenly and her car is still over here. If i send the money by bank transfer to her account i can then go and collect the car.. YEAH RIGHT.. lmao as if.. Cant believe some people acually fall for these scams. They're too obvious to be true but worse thing is autotrader dont seem to bother to stop them advertising.

Back OT, I do quite like the Mike and Ed programme but I find it all a bit far fetched. It's all very well saying you can pick up a car for X, spend Y, and have a profit of Z, but Ed is a very good spanner man and has a fully equiped shop with hydraulic platform etc. You or I would not have the same outcome most of the time. Much like Property Ladder did for the DIY industry I suspect programmes like WD et al may encourage the less than competent to 'have a go' with predictable results.

The do an excellent job of demonstrating that you can't buy a car, do it up and sell it on at a profit.
I've yet to see them show a remotely decent profit, even though none of their figures ever include Ed and his workshop at £60 per hour for 2 weeks of solid work, plus the time, phone calls and petrol to buy the car in the first place.
If you did factor in that lot, they'd lose their shirt on every deal. Even without, they don't even make minimum wage !
nice to watch though.

Didn't they make a few quid on the DS? Not counting the labour as you say...

The DS did look nice though.

Last nights episode had me screaming at the TV. As JBerks says, it just shows you can't make a profit doing up cars in this way. The Bentley they bought last night had most of the oily bits done but mine has cost me 14k in the last year. That respray was a farce too. Edd had spent over 60 hrs getting it stripped and rubbed down which in my book makes it over 2 grand in labour alone. A guy on a Bentley forum spent 7 grand on a full respray, same colour, which is much nearer the mark. 2 grand! Pff

And was it just me but that interior did not look good against the grey paint.
