Hi all
I’ve got a 2013 e class it’s my first mercedez I bought it used from Mercedes in Cheltenham, it’s an absolute dream to drive, my only concern is a kind of humming noise coming from the front wheels and when I brake it almost feels like metal on metal it doesn’t do it all the time but for me it spoils the unique drive when it’s proper warmed up it seems to go away, I took it back to mercedez and they changed the whole park brake, under warranty as for the brakes they said it’s where the car has been sitting on the forecourt for so long but I’ve been driving it everyday for four weeks now, has anyone else experienced this
Thanks

Papa keep going back if you think there is a problem . Or pop in to another Mercedes dealership and ask them to look at it . Might be the tyres alone .Is there any signs of wear on the front tyres ?

I had lovely tyres that were great until down to approx 6mm. They had me looking for duff bearings until I swapped wheels and the sound disappeared.

They were winter tyres Nokian WR C3's.

How about increasing the air in the front two wheels say by 2psi and see if it makes any difference.

Hi mate
When I picked the car up there was 47psi in the rear and 40 in the front so I reduced it to 30 in the front and 33psi in the back but nope it’s still there

Yes after that you can’t hear it my son in laws a mechanic he checked the bearings the park brake in case it was sticking and the bearings everything seems ok he reckons it might need a gearbox software update

Leave it with the dealers and keep taking it back till its right.

Could be the disks are uneven having been sat for a long time with parking break on.

Dont run at wrong pressures to overcome a problem that shouldn't be there. running at too high pressure will compromise quality of ride and cause improper tyre wear.

Cheap Chinese tyres can do this, especially V patterned ones.
My 129 sounded like the wheel bearings were shot and changing tyres sorted it.
It was actually so bad the tyre fitter I use could hear me coming!

Post up the make, size, and name/model of tyre.
does it have “M + S” or a snowflake moulded onto sidewall?
maybepost up a photo if you are unsure.

Not cheap ones, middle of the road will be ok and ask a decent tyre supplier for the noise level which is now supplied.

Had this issue on my mini - private dealer fitted cheapest possible. Check for saw toothing on the wheels. If they’re GY Assymetric, you may be able to do a switcheroo

High pressures in tires are often used [& heat] to make an out of round tire round again. Dealerships often will over inflate and take it for a hard drive if the car has been standing for some time and the tires get flat spots on them. They also pop them in the painters oven for a bake at a higher pressure to make them round again. The other trick is to underinflate them and to go on a straight line high speed run to get some temp in them. On a cheaper tire that may be enough to have them object badly....

Of course you could always try humming back....
