hello and thanks to everyone for advice on ATF change.
I have bought a dipstick($46)whatever that is in pounds(inc shipping).
In my excitement I pushed it into the correct tube without bothering to heat it up,Just to see if there was any in there at all.The only reading I can get this way is either;NOTHING if I stop at the fist point of resistance or, when I push it beyond that point, the whole end peice of the stick is covered in oil.
Obviously there is "some" fluid in there but I need to be sure that when I do the dip at 80 deg Im doing it right?????????????

You stop until you cannot push it any further. That is the very bottom.

oh.....
two different answers.
I havent added any fluid yet,I just wanted to check level as I was suspicious of "slow" pull away ,see "transmision fluid check/change".posted by myself last week.
I am seriously considering changing the ATF,with the aid of my mechanic friend as I understand it can dramaticaly increse the life of the transmision, just need to be sure of what Im doing.

They're the same answer. The dipstick stops when it touches the bottom of the pan. You shouldn't have to force it.
