My wife visited the local Merc garage yesterday with her 1991 W124 230CE to get a price on a job and was quoted a price of £80. Quite by chance, one of the service staff said he would take a look to check that the job she was asking for was necessary, (maybe because she is a woman?) and on looking at the car, said the car wasnt a 124 and promptly changed the price from £80 to £280 saying that the 124 coupe is the one with the rounded headlights, not ours with the square headlights.
My wife's car is the 1991 pillarless coupe 230CE. The chassis number begins WDB 124, and I have always known it as an E class 124 coupe.
Is he right? Is it NOT a 124? Also seems amazing that a job which would cost £80 on an almost new car would cost £280 on a 13 yr old car!
