Hi all,
1995 C220 (Petrol) 4sp Auto

The C220 is coming up to its 80,000 mile service. I seem to remember that around 40k at 6 years the dealer changed the gearbox oil and filters. She's running perfectly but does anyone know what the schedule says on this subject. Is it time to redo the gearbox oil and filter? PLus, anything else that should be done at this point from a pre-emptive / maintenance perspective. We want a few years out of her yet.
cheers,
JB

I would change oil and filter at 35-36K and change the oil at 18K. Oil is cheap, gearbox about £2000!

Couldn't agree more with the posts above. My E320CDi will receive an oil and filter change at the next annual check circa 50K. I feel comfortable with that as opposed to the service book recommendation of 'sealed for life'.

I can only feel that the 'sealed for life' and with 'no maintenance' only appeals to finance and fleet owners who are preoccupied with running costs and sell on their cars at 70K. There are a lot of people who will be picking up the tab as 2nd or 3rd owners.

Mind you being cynical suppying replacement boxes must be a very lucrative business.
