When were SL320's made EOBD compliant?

Hi,

I am looking to buy a R129 320.

Can anyone tell me when these cars became EOBD (also known as OBD11) compliant. I know it was a legal requirement from 2000, but some manufacturers started phasing it in earlier.

I like to do most of the work on my cars myself and have some diagnostic equipment already including OBD11 scanning software and interface. I have found this really useful on my current car for diagnosing engine running and when I installed an lpg system - which I am considering doing on the SL I buy.

It would be really useful to know this date to help deciding if my budget will allow me to get a newish one with this and when looking at adds for cars for sale.

They ALL have a built in diagnostic facility of sorts right from the start of production anyway, so it does not matter which model you buy in that respect.

I know all had a diagnostic system, but I would like something that is able to graph the O2 sensor outputs, or monitor short and long term fuel trims. I would not be able to do that on the non EOBD cars without, I believe investing in something like the Star (I think that is what it is called) diagnostic system.

As I already have the kit to do this on EOBD cars it would be nice to not have to spend a lot off money on a vehicle specific piece of kit. I realise the Star system does way more than just engine diagnostics, but I reckon I would rarely use that side of it, making use of an independent for that side of things.
