One last thing (I hope!) I need to get my W140 back to A1 condition is a rocker box cover. Mercedes have quoted £291 plus VAT, which if I can avoid paying, I need to!

Does anyone have any ideas? It's only got a hairline crack and I have been told that it could be welded up... Has anyone had one welded? Would you recommend it?

PLEASE, let this be the last of the expense...

Welding should be ok ...I have had sumps welded and they turned out as good as new.

Many moons ago I had a nice Honda four cylinder motorbike. One day while using it "off road" I managed to damage the cast aluminium sump. I got it home, removed the sump and glued it together with Araldite. My mother was not too impressed with me using her oven to sort of bake it....but the repair worked 100% satisfactorily. I don't know if it works for hairline cracks but I would have no hesitation in welding the rocker cover.

Yea Guydewdney.

Sulli's car is a 98 S320. Pretty sure its the inline 320 engine. Don't think they changed to V6 in mid-98 as they were soon to be discontinued, but I could be wrong.

Part Number?

Merc Man thinks he can supply me with a new rocker box cover, but needs to know the part number. Can anyone tell me what it is or tell me where I could find it?

I don't really want to take the old one off until I have the new one in hand, ready to fit.

Mine is a 1998 W140 / S320 LWB Business Edition in Green Black.

Any ideas?
