Hi mate,

I had to have a key cut for my SLK, and from a main dealer it cost me about £50, so not as bad as you have heard.

I had to wait about 3 or 4 days for it to come though.

Hope this helps?

I am pretty sure that the local key cutters can do the pre-electronic, security keys these days. The dealer will need your log book, chassis number and proof of id before they will get you one.

Keys

Hi
I bought a new key from my main agent for my SLK last week. It was £84 and they needed my log book, passport and drivers licence for identification

new key for a W124 is about £6 from your dealer (well it was from mine). Matched to your chassis number and delivered within a week from Germany.

Dealers are not always ridiculously expensive :)

the cheapest option upwards may not turn out to be the most economical

Bear in mind that the W124 ignition lock is known to fail - when this happens it can be a very expensive job. would you rather have a brand new key made to the original specifications operating this lock or a copy of a 10 year old worn key?

Trying to save a quid or two is one thing but penny pinching can come back on you and bite :)
