OK, just getting used to the automatic, and yes the parking brake is a pain especially eith the limited space in the cabin. However it's my right foot that I have the issue with. On previous cars I've had you can set the cruise control and then there's a foot rest to the right of the accelerator so you can still be in the correct position to brake or accelerate if needed.

In the merc you either have to hover off the pedals or move your foot up flat which apart from twisting your seating position is a bit dangerous.

WHat do you guys do??

Not sure about limited space in the cabin, what car? I find the left foot rest great & my right foot either sits just to the right of the accelerator against the carpet or at an angle in front of the brake.

Do you have the Norfolk webbed feet option

C270 estate. (03 model) - and there is no space on the right so it's the hover option which isn't great on a long motorway trip. Left rest is ok but the parking brake pokes into the shin a little.

I don't think I'm excessively big (6'1") medium build. But the cramped cabin has surprised me.

Luckily not a native Norfolk lad so can still spread my toes! lose at all swimming races though. ;)

Having been used to driving a Golf for 2yrs I've really found the Mercedes hard regarding the pedals :(

I do drive with quite high heels, which possibly doesn't help, but half the time I can't even find the accelerator as it just doesn't seem to be very accessible, so I let my partner drive instead as I just can't get the hang of it

Not thought much about the time reflex aspect of cruise, but I turn my right leg 90 degrees, ie go almost cross legged in front of the pedals. Never had to worry overmuch about response as I rarely clog it these days and cruise is a bit of an armchair drive anyway I think.
I do use it a lot, everywhere I can in fact.

I expect you can you get Manilo Blahniks or Jimmy Choos to accommodate, however off the shelf could be a bit more difficult, unless you want Hunters...:lol:

I agree with you Tray - my foot is at an angle against the side 'wall' of the footwell.

Best car I've had for this issue was a Skoda Octavia; a 'proper' footrest for both left and right feet, perfectly positioned to move back on the pedals as required.

I find my right foot rests on the accelerator quite comfortably. It doesn't affect the the speed any, only set criuse at speeds >40mph

more like where do i put my feet

having hand controlls i have my left foot on the foot rest and my right foot resting on the accelerator as its such a heavy pedal it takes the weight of my size 9 and never moves as my hand controlls work from the back of the pedal

must say my right ankle does ache after a while as i used to use my right foot to accelerate as i was too tight to pay the extra £200 for the accelerator controlls

incase you wonderd my controlls cost £600 and i have to have a new set every time i change my car

I knowww High heels are a bark, my six inch stilletos give me real problem so I keep a pair of Jimmy Choo low heel sling backs in the footwell. Having said that though its the tights that cause me a problem, the crutch is so low down - around my knees -it does so restrict movement. Bring back nylons and suspenders I say;):D:D

I recommend you try wearing crutchless tights with no g string underneath so that you can have a nice flow of fresh air from the a/c, or perhaps try some hold up stockings. They have a nice rubber and lace edge to them, but if you have hairy thighs you might want to wax them first as I would imagine the rubber would catch on them and we wouldn't want you to be in any unnecessary pain ;)

oooh you are awful - but I like you:D

PS the rubber sounds good but not sure about the waxing me thinks I would need a rough grade of emery cloth/paper first followed by a good rub down with course wire wool;)

Little did I know that this would descend into such debauchery!

Resting on the pedal ok on occasion. a footrest would be great though. If you move your foot out of that position then you twist your spine and the seats are uncomfortable enough as it is. It's one of those little things you always forget on a test drive but you notice a huge amount when driving for real.

Never had a problem. When sitting in a car, you should be able to hold your heel on the floor, and extend your ankle fully upwards (i..e lift your foot upwards whilst keeping the heel of your foot on the floor) and not be deploying pressure on the gas pedal. Any closer than this and your legs are too close.

If you can't fully deploy the gas pedal by moving your right foot downward but keeping your heel in the same place, then your legs are too far back. Legs are typically bent at an angle of 110 degrees when sitting comfortable but close enough to control the car.

If your sat properly there should be no issue of needing to rest your foot, ankle ache (legs are too close by the sounds of things, even hovering above the gas pedal there should be room for further upwards extension of the foot).

My only issue with my MB is the left footrest isn't wide enough (I have big feet, judging by the comments earlier no doubt a new conversation could be started ;) ) so my left foot isn't comfortable.

Any chance of a foot massage?
