Hi,
I am experiencing cutting out problems on my 99 w210 e300 td, i am wanting to check my k40 relay as i am told this could be the likely cause with the soldering on the pb, trouble is i don't know where it is have looked in the box near the brake servo the box on the oposite side under the bonnet and under o/s rear set where the battery is located can't see anything that looks like the pictures i have seen

There are 2 K40 relays, K40/2 is in the drivers side fuse box, K40/4 is in the passenger side

the fuse boxes you are refering to are they the ones under the bonnet that you get to by removing the philips head screws? if so is the k40 relays on my model the same as the one shown in the link above cause if i am looking in the right places i can't see them.

ok an update on my problem have located my k40 relay reason i couldnt find it was it is a completely different looking unit than ones i have read about before the part no. on mine is A 000 540 01 72 took the bottom off and is no evdence of any problems with the soldering on the pb on this relay there is an actual square relay which can be removed which i have done and tested all ok there so i have done all i can think of to eliminiate this as the problem,

further details of my symptoms first problem accured yesterday morning driving to work 5 miles into my 6 mile trip the car cut out as i slowed to a roundabout up until that point car drove perfectly, immediatley tried restarting with no luck after about 5 mins trying finally splutterd back to life and after a few seconds idled normally and ran fine again for the last mile of journey, i've only had car a few weeks and am running on veg oil reluctant to mention this as i don't think this has anything to do with my problem but because of this i did on the off chance of having a blockage problem replace the main filter and checked the prefilter but that was perfectly clean, after doing this work took forever to get the car started from what i understand the car self primes but seemed to take an excessive amount of cranking, set off home at end of the day car cut out 3 times twice on highway at constant speed started rough after about 5 mins both times and the 3rd time was as i swung into my drive, i didnt try and start it again at that point, checked my k40 relay found no problems, came to try to start it this morning wouldnt have it at all and finally flattened my battery, battery on charge now but has anyone got any other ideas on possible causes when i get battery back on will get my father round as i want to listen for the click of the shut off valve when cranking i believe this to be the best way to check if it is working? also have heard people talk about the crank position sensor, is there one on a diesel? also is there a lift pump? have heard some people say yes and some say there isn't, if so whats best way to check that its working?
thanks for any help if i had any would be pulling my hair out now.

Stalling problems 99 e300 td

I am 3rd owner, 140km summer car, had car for a year, excellent on diction, this summer car stalls when driving around town or at highway speed check engine code was 1625 so replaced fuel shut off valve, swapped out the k40 relay and small fuel pump relay from another 99 e300td. Pod for a few days then stealing starts again with same code. Replaced the fuel shut off valve and o ring, no bubbles or leaks engine dry as a bone. The k40 relay And fuel pump relay i swapped out was under cover on passenger side. Pre-filter and filter new, correct voltage to so valve. Wiring harness continuity is to spec. This is my first post to this forum and I wold appreciate any help other members may have. Thanks!

99 e300 td. Stalling on highway

Thanks or your question, yes car runs for a while then quits while driving at the worst times. If it rests for a while it will start and runs a bit rough, check engine light on again.......
