I've just sold a 1995 300 4-matic 124 estate to a skiing enthusiast because i couldn't stand the fuel consumtion.
Now i want to buy a really economical diesel estate for hack work ( my fun summer car is a 94 E320 cabriolet ).
I have been offered a 1979 123 240D 4 sp manual in good nick for 1000 or a 1994 300D auto for 5000. Which is the more economic/better bet? Speed doesn't bother me and I love both the 123 and 124. Neither car is fully equipped with leather or electric windows etc. I'd appreciate any advice as I don't have any performance or consumption figures.
