I've used the Sealey TP69 vacuum pump very successfully it's 6.5 litre capacity may be a problem for larger sumps necessitating an emptying in between about £65. I recently bought a Lidl electric pump for about €15 haven't used it yet but others have and recommend it.

12 volt. Just clip on - + on the battery put small nylon pipe down dipstick tube and use an old bowl or oil container to take all the oil without it over flowing --switch on and pump away . Move the nylon pipe around as you pump the old oil out .

Thanks guys for your contributions looks like a Sealey or Pela vacuum pump or Lidl 12v pump. I’m favouring the Sealey T69 at the moment purely on purchasers reviews

Oh, just get them all and try to keep up with Wighty's prodigious oil change regime ;) looks like we'll all have plenty of time.

If you go for an electric pump model then the only drawback I very nearly fell victim to was when I was distracted momentarily just as I started pumping and almost lost the discharge pipe under the car, I've since installed a tank connector to my used oil container, otherwise I find my Machine Mart oil pump vary handy.

Best way to do this is, drain the old oil from the sump by removing the sump plug . If its possible to do it this way . I know most Mercedes have this lower engine shield ,,and no exit hole in it for oil to drain though in to a container .This type will need the under shield removing to change the oil .Then this is the ideal way to do the oil change up topside with ease . I purchased my oil extractor pump because i thought i had to remove the undershield to drain the oil off .But first time i took of the shield to clean it and give it a coat of paint the same colour as the car, it was then that i noticed the shield had a hole in it for oil to drain through . But i can still find jobs for the extractor pump , including power steering fluid removal . They [ extractor pumps] dont like water or petrol they rely on the fluid you are extracting to lubricate them. I know i tried one 12volt extractor pump on water once, and it siezed up .

Very tempted I’m a bit of a gadget freak - I like the Sealey unit and the quality looks ok - I bought a 12v oil extractor a few years ago when the garage I used always overfilled the OM613 engine by 0.5 litre which always tripped the dash warning message, the pump leaked and had to be stripped the second time I used it which put me off

Yes the Sealey is a robust unit and handy for all liquids but if the Lidl unit comes up it must be worth the price just for another option.

9L on the bay , I've currently a 6.5L Sealey .

Old boys have old thinking and with the ease of changing out and frequency there is no black oil in both my diesels .

My OM642 uses 8 litres so the bigger Sealey unit would be ideal. I’m amazed how clean the oil stays in this engine they do appear to run clean compared to my old OM613 unit must be more complete combustion

9L isn't Sealey but I'd appreciate the headroom as I'm 6.5L capacity .

CC engine capacity Vs oil sump capacity ratio has alot to do with used oil quality .
