I am getting lots of conflicting advice on the correct engine oil for my '72 350SL. Anybody want to offer a definitive answer?

Thanks in advance

As its an old engine don't use a synthetic oil. Try a good brand 20w-50. Thats what Mercedes recommended for this vehicle. I am currently using Mobil 1 15-50w so don't choose a thinner oil as it will seep through valve seals and cause engine to smoke.

Hi Mark

I don't think there is a diffinitive answer. We used to use Mobil Super 15/40 mineral oil. I wouldn't bother with either semi or fully synthetic oils for the reason mentioned.

What ever you use change it regularly. Those vehicles had a 5k service interval.
