Hi

Need to top up engine oil on our 2 year old E Class, but cannot for the life of me find anywhere what type of oil I need to buy. Service is not due for some time and just want to pop into Halfords and buy a litre or so to top it up.

Message appears saying check engine oil and dipstick does show that it is at min level.

Anyone any ideas please

Many thanks

Does it not say in the handbook?

With a 2yr old car I would pop into the dealership, they can tell you what oil and you could well get a free top-up :)

The hand book is a poor idea as they get old and out of date.

Oil technology moves on fast, with 4 major updates on my oil since 2002

Sure the specs get updated but if the oil was ok from new then its a good place to start. You wont do any damage following what's in the handbook....

Just stick some 20-60 in there ... That's what I use in the Maestro lol...

(Please don't, it'll probably kill a modern engine!)

Can't go wrong with Mobil 1; although I use Vauxhall 5W/30 fully synthetic oil in my C220 CDi as I can get it reasonably cheap and the quality is great!
