I'm drowning in numbers here trying to discover the correct oil for my 1997 Sprinter 310D (WDB9034622P753439) manual gearbox. Russek says all gearboxes up to 051 110 111 use SAE 80, thereafter SAE 75W85. However, though my gearbox is liberally sprinkled with numbers, none of them match Russek's format.

The numbers I have are:

On the plate:
G28-5 werk gaggenhau
711-612 Aggr.nr
293-213 Fertl.nr
100-126 Var nr/NA

Stamped on the casing:
902 261 0601
P651/2
+GF+HG

The one that seems most probable is '100-126 Var nr/NA', but I don't want to guess at it and then bugger up the box, or at least shorten its life any more than I need to.

Cheers, Jim

>>what ever that is

Power Take Off - where a drive can be taken from the gearbox to power other systems, for example, hydraulic pumps for tippers / cranes, etc. There's usually an adapter which has a sliding mesh intermediate/idler gear which is below the oil level in the gearbox, and so, there's some extra oil volume required.

Arrrghhh!! more ****** numbers! :? However, a quick google crunch reveals it's 75W85, which by a stroke of luck is the *only* gear oil I can git aholt of. Many thanks Television, may your remote control batteries last forever...or something :D

PS I knew what PTO meant too...
