Can anyone please help?
I am totally new to owning a mercedes car and have just bought a C Class 320 Elegance, 2001 (Y) (Do I hear you say mug??)
The car came with the comand unit and telephone wiring. I have asked the dealer which model of Nokia phone will fit, they initially said the 6310. So I bought one from ebay and tried it in the cradle, yes it fitted, but the display just said phone initiallising.
I was told by the dealer that this initially was down to a wiring problem but after checking they said I needed another phone.
So back to eBay, this phone just didn't fit at all. Nokia 6150
I am now wondering if the Nokia 6310i is the correct phone, but don't want to rush out and spend more money.
Can anyone please help???

Unless I am mistaken 2001 models came with the Nokia 6210. Fits in the same cradle as the 6310.
Mine came with 6210 and I changed up to 6310i after upgrading the PSE.

I had a similar incident in my W220 - COMAND said that the Nokia 6310i was not installed, when it was. The system had worked correctly prior to some other work being done.

The specialist said that static can build up in the cradle, causing this effect. He recommended to disconnect the cradle (just remove the cable from the base of the cradle), wait for a couple of minutes and reconnect. Worked a treat and has been fine since.

If the phone fits the cradle, it should work. :)

I really think that this is your problem, so options are : buy 6210 from E Bay, about £30, or have the PSE changed, mine was about £120 but that was three years ago.

A good 6310i will be about 60-70 pounds. Phones that also fit are 6110, 6150, 6210, 6310, 6310i, 5110i, 5110, 5146 and so on with the slim line battery.

So, the dealer saying 6150 is right for the age of the car, but the rest should work as said, with an upgrade at most. Keep the 6310i, good phones are they. :)

On the command online site is the Viseeo 'handset' unit that pretends to be a nokia but actually converts the standard cradle to bluetooth. Supposedly they're excellent. That way you can use any phone.

Yes all correct as far as I know but there was an issue over the 6310i in that it did not work in all cradles,, this happened in my car where the 6150 up to the 6310 worked fine, but the i version did not. There was another cradle for this but I stuck with the 6150 as I am not that bothered about the phone. This info is on WIS

Had the same problem in my CL, had an old 6310 which i tried but kept getting a "initialising phone" message, swapped it for a 6210 and worked perfect. Got a cheap 6310 if anyone wants one!!
