Should I replace my C230K Est (98S 65k FMBSH if any one is interested - sliver, leather air criuse, uprated alloys (MB from new) and multidisc CD)

Kids are getting a bit too big to sit in the back for long distances - I am doing about 250-375 miles/week 99pct motorway.

Would like to spend not a penny more than twenty grand. What do I go for?(we don't really need estate any more, lumpy stuff fits in the OH's A class)
am as tight as a gnats bum so would liketo get 30mpg and some residual in three years...(OK I can dream)

S - but I think the 270 will still be juicy
M - everyone I spoken to slate them
E - OH reckons they are cramped in the back (our 96 W124 Est was best car I have ever owned)
