if you have deep pockets, the bluetooth adaptor is (just) out which allows a much wider choice of phones.

It fits in place of the cradle insert and to work best needs a phone that supports "sim access profile" over bluetooth - all the gizmo Nokias do.

As far as I can get from the helpline, this is the current status re phones:

Bluetooth support options - both fit in place of a UHI cradle and have the same prereqs of code 386 (both around £350 or so dep on dealer discount):

PN - > B67875838 has a handset so you can pick it up and make a private call (while parked of course!).

PN - > B67875840 no handset.

For the above, SIM access profile (specifically on the mobile - SIM access server) must be supported by the phone so the car can remotely use the SIM but via its own built-in "phone" for the call.

There is a "tested" list here: http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Template2.cfm?LinkQualified=QualifiedProducts&SortCat=QualifiedDate

Headset profile etc is NOT supported.

Alternatively, UHI cradles available:

PN - > B6 787 5822 Nokia 6210/6310/6310i
PN - > B6 787 5835 Nokia 6100/6610/6610i/7250i
PN - > B6 787 5846 Nokia 6220/6230/6230i
PN - > B6 787 5842 Nokia 6020/6021
PN - > B6 787 5847 Nokia 6820/6822
PN - > B6 787 5848 Nokia 9300
PN - > B6 787 5834 Siemens S65/SP65
PN - > B6 787 5841 Siemens CX65/CXT65/CX65V/CX70/CXT70/CX70V
PN - > B6 787 5852 Siemens SK65
PN - > B6 787 5830 Sony-Ericsson T610/T630
PN - > B6 787 5852 Sony-Ericsson K700i

Just as another thought - I have a Pioneer DEH-70BT headunit (single DIN) which has a blue tooth adapter built in. Allows you to put numbers in the headunit, has steering wheel control. Also comes as 55BT, 75BT. Holds connection setting for 5 phones and a visitor phone (only one connected at at time though.)

You can get an adapter for an iPod. Plays WMA, MP3, AAC format from CD - you can also put in boot changer to - up to 12 disk. All for the grand sum of about £240.

Quality of sounds is good. The stereo plugs straight into the existing wiring so no fiddly bits to do. The only thing that can be a challenge is getting the Mic wire from the back of the stereo to a suitable position in the car. I did it in 10 minutes.

Awesome set up really and sooo compact

Least this way it doesnt matter too much what Bluetooth mobile you have

Hope this is useful

Yes, in truth we'd all be a lot better with after market systems, which is probably why they've never come up with a standard steering wheel control interface and have gone 'double din' with the Audio 20 etc!
Anything to lock us into the expensive integral kit.

I can see your point

I dunno what you see on your display as my merc doesnt have that inbuilt, but going from what i got in my last car (Audi A4) was that I was listening to radio 1 - which i already knew because i put it on that channel...

When i put my headunit in that I didnt miss anything at all. The stereos come with a control a bit larger than a £2 coin and do everything for you, which fits snuggly in the middle of your steering wheel for thumb control - and does everything from answering the phones to changing the input source to selecting tracks etc

But at the end of the day- Its what you spent your money on and how you want to use your equipment

I am happy to take some pics and mail them to people if they want to see how its set up in my mota
