I drive a W202 c250TD Sport, and am struggling to get the correct springs fitted. one of the front springs had snapped and failed the MOT. Although I now know that you should replace in pairs, I didn't at the time.
I used a local garage for the repair, this proved to be a big mistake. But after the new spring was fitted the car passed the MOT.
But I noticed it wasn't sitting right, leaning away from the new spring. Upon closer inspection, I realised that the new spring had 13 coils, and the original only has 9.
So I took the car back, to have the correct one fitted. When i went back to collect the car, it was quite late on a Friday, and the Mechanic had already locked up and was waiting for me. He passed me the keys and drove off. After collecting the car I counted the coils on the new spring and that one has 11 and the car still leans, although not as much. Also the steering wheel was misaligned and a wheel nut missing. After getting the car back in this state, I really do not want to return to that garage even though my car still isn't right.
So, I am now considering the options. option 1 - take the car to a specialist or main dealer and have the spring replaced properly, although after reading another post on sports suspension, even the dealer didn't get this right.
option 2 - fit a pair of lowering springs to the front. I figure if the Sport model is already lowered then lowering springs shouldn't make too much difference, with the first wrongly fitted spring increasing the height on that corner by about 2 inches, and lowering springs lowering by about 2 inches.
My question is, what is the difference between the springs on an estate and those on a saloon? Is it just the rears that are different, or are the fronts different too? The reason i ask this is because i have seen a full set going very cheap, but they are from an C250 TD estate.
Any advice about the springs for my car or even about your experiences with MB springs would be appreciated.
