My new family responsibilites been I am in the market for an estate, as my fuel is paid for by work I am keen to get the most bhp per £!

I fancy either a E320 or E430, I will be doing c.20k miles per annum inlcuding some long european trips. I need top relaibility.

Of the range are there any models or years to avoid? Are there any big bills that can crop up or work that I should have been done as part of the routine maintenance?

Any guidance by owners would be appreciated.

I recommend using the search function as this has come up quite a few times recently.
I would not discount the E320CDI, IMHO it is the best compromise engine in the 210's.

If I wasn't fuelling and repairing, why not an E55!!
The 320cdi is ace,but it will never be as smooth as a V8 or even the V6.
Be aware of the rust issues but aside from that they are all pretty good. The 240 is a tad underpowered but I suspect this is under your radar anyway!

if you drive the 430

you'll be sold. Those V8 mercs are more addictive than morphine. As long as oil changes are done, and the chain tensioner issue dealt with, they are pretty indestuctible and might be just what you want.
