I'm looking to fit a new set of tyres (Dunlop,Goodyear or similar) to my ce230 w123.I've seen a few pictures of similar age saloons fitted with whitewall tyres.

Looking on a few web sites,205/70x14 with whitewalls by cooper tyres are available.Standard size is 195/70.
Anyone used this brand with this size on a w123?

Did you know you can by parts to make standard tyres look like white-wall tyres. They are like a hollow frizby shape and are fitted by letting the air out of the tyre and pressing them into the bead area. Once inflated, they are gripped by the tyre itself. This way you can by quality tyres that grip the road and still look retro. Try northhantswheels.co.uk but phone them up as I don't think these parts are on their website.

Hi
Thanks for the information.I have actually looked into that option-a motor web site I found gave some negative reports i.e. scuffing of the sidewall and loss of tyre pressure.Still,I think I will look further into the use of them and give the supplier you mentioned a call for info from them.

Cooper is as good as most other budget makes, not Conti etc, but ok. I'd call a few local suppliers, there may well be special order options available from their wholesalers that you don't see online.
The size may be a problem. 205/70 will be taller than 195/70. 195-205 is 10mm wider, so at 70% profile, it's also 7mm taller than your old tyre and your speedo will underread slightly by comparison.
The sidewall is 195 / 70= 136.5mm
The sidewall on 205 / 70 = 143.5mm
so you really need 205 / 65 = 133.25mm

Thanks for that information.I'm quite happy to look at 205/65,my concern was that the appearance might look a little unbalanced, due to the tyre not filling the wheel arch. However, your figures demonstrate the sidewall would only be 3.25 mm or approx.1/8'' less,
