I sympathise with you -ins prices are really crazy when your young --I used to only be able to afford "Third Party Only" and always use Max NCB to keep the cost down + park off road / lock up garage and fit immobilizer to car brings premiums down too.

Sounds like a good quote to me, many young drivers are paying that much for a Punto.

Sounds pretty good for your age and London

I've left the forum - can still be found on others, just don't have time to read them all.
Try some brokers in addition to the price comparison sites. You might find someone can give you 'classic insurance' which is often cheaper. Your age will count you out of some of those policies as would keeping the car on the street and not having access to any other vehicles, I don't know which of these criteria apply so I mention them anyway. It's all worth a try though - you might save yourself a grand with some phone time!

Phone these outfits up (don't just rely on online quotes):-
Adrian Flux,
Peter Best
Footman James
Carol Nash

Other tips to improve quotes...
Always add an older more experienced with no recent claims to the policy (not 'fronting' i.e. don't claim they are the main driver, just have them on there).
Always mention any car club memberships, join one if you aren't a member already.
Consider joining the IAM and going for the test, you might enjoy it, it costs hardly anything compared with driving lessons and some insurers drop the quote by 20% for a driver with a pass.

Any quote you get, always ask if there is anything they can do to bring it down.

As other posters have pointed out, getting a 500 v8 insured for the price you've been quoted doesn't sound all that bad considering the frightening figures you hear - but keep trying!

If it's any consolation, some of the young lads at work are paying similar & more for their Astras/Focus's/Other Euro boxes ;)

If you have access to a daily car, might be worth seeing if one of the classic insurers will give you a better deal on your SL, low annual mileage, no commuting etc...

Some insurers will give you discount if you have a black box type device or a camera fitted.

I'm only 20, nearly 3 years driving and 1 years no claims so my CLK 320 should cost me the figures you've been quoted. However, as previously mentioned, I have both parents on the policy (they will never drive it) just to reduce the cost.
With that applied, my insurance is about £1000.

I use confused.com, if you can get a quote from the admiral company (elephant, diamond, admiral) they're usually considerably cheaper, the only downside being you have to pay yearly; monthly they charge around double, that's why they're cheap.

Don't go with 'Bell from Admiral' that has one of those blasted black boxes, I would steer clear of other companies with this too, not much difference in cost and will ruin your enjoyment of driving

You shouldn't need to worry about having a flight recorder if you drive carefully:rolleyes:
I however chose NOT to have one;)

:

I'd be wary of making statements like that in public as you wont be insured if you've knowingly mis stated the facts to your insurance company.

Very true, they are additional drivers only and my insurance company are aware of my circumstances!

They are also aware that adding parents reduces the cost and have no objection :)

Its the "(they will never drive it)" that is the issue. Did you tell that to your insurance company when adding your parents that they will never drive?

You get the reduction in premium on the basis that the cars annual mileage will be shared amongst a number of drivers some high risk and some low risk. If the low risk drivers aren't really going to drive then all the mileage is done by the high risk driver and the premium shouldn't be reduced!!

I am sure that lots of people do what you are doing but admitting it on a public forum might not be the best thing to do??????

Well that comment is really for the purpose of putting anyone's mind at rest that their parents won't have to drive it everyday (which I would find an annoyance) they probably will drive the car at some point, but there is no requirement that a named driver 'has' to drive the vehicle/vehicles on the policy.

I am aware of how the system works and so are the insurance companies, as long as the facts are correct, you're insured.

I'm not admitting anything that the insurance company doesn't already know :)

Ok. If you've got it all in hand, that's fine with me.

I'd have thought that adding a named driver is so that they can drive it. It's not so that they must drive it.
Must is only adding to the insurance risk. Can is allowing the insurer to calculate (gamble with) the risk.
