I see that all car owners in the states have been sent a leter giving them a 10 year guarantee on SBC pumps.

Also in the states the Volvo fly by wire throtle controler is being replaced free of charge in the USA, its £650 in the UK.

Their cars are not as vulnerable to rust as here in blighty. They take customer care more seriously down there.

Yes but you have to have chrome wheels and spend three weeks every month polishing your car.

You're better off here.

Why not just get someone to polish it for you? Will cost less than here and will most likely do a better job.

I lived in California for 3 years - there was an excellent car wash near my house. For 15 USD you could drop it off and wait, drink free coffee and watch as the car was descended on by 20 guys (the washing was an automatic machine, the rest a manual 'production line') - included hoovering inside and polishing outside. What they call a 'full service' car wash. Magic! The downside was that the place was extremely popular.

There was one like that in Irvine CA 20 years ago, but it cost as much as a tank fill (about 7 bucks I think! Not the Suburban, that was 40 gal)
My daughter uses one in Manchester staffed by diligent Eastern Europeans!

Wonder what would happen if you paid up in the UK and then sued for the cost in the small claims court? Bet they'd pay up rather than risk losing and setting a precedent (I realise that SCC can't set a precedent but it would have that effect).

Yes - much better plan....

On a serious note, though, I am constantly surprised at the standard of paintwork of the Benzes I see on the US forums - ie how well looked after the paintwork always is.

Over here (London) you can get a good hand car wash for about $10 but I wouldn't ask those guys to do a polish. For that you need to find a valeting company and they charge about $100 for a proper job. I don't know of one near me so don't get it done very often.

Still not very keen on chromed rims though - though that's my personal take not a claim that I am an arbriter of style :)

Most of the SL's in the states are running around on 20" as against thr 17",18"
I agree they are far too bright in chrome.

The latest fashion is black centers with a polished lip, that look quite nice ,and they are now getting onto Ebay in the UK.

I like that look. I was always a fan of four spoke Revolutions in the 80's - black (or someyime body colour) spokes and polished rims.

There use to be a black CLK 55 in Maida Vale with black AMG monoblocks and polished rims - it really looked the business.

Back to the original thread... I had my SBC pump looked at by MB a month ago and they said all updates had been done to it and "needed no other work done to it". I have this in writing from them.

My previous car (Volvo S60) seemed to have the symptoms of the throttle problem. Volvo kept schtum about it. I took it to an indy who cleaned out the throttle body and the symptoms stopped till I part Exed it for the E. Wonder if it's started acting up again...

I'm sure I read somewhere that the SBC was good for 300,000 applications. Good if you do long motorway runs with cruise on, but not so good for blatting around London

Lots of mixed feelings on this one, some say it was applied before all of the bugs were ironed out,but no one here has had a problem, its nice to drive with.
