I know that in car WiFi is a bit of a waste of time, but still, having tried to get it connected and failed is irritating. My iPhone recognises the hotspot and I have entered the pw correctly and the little wifi symbol shows on the phone. But when I actually try to connect to the web, nothing doing. Any ideas anyone?

The master phone is the supplier of the network for the wifi , other passengers or equipment then connect to the cars wifi signal but as you said it’s a bit pointless when you can turn a hot spot from your phone directly

^ What Rich said basically. Your car connects to your phone for internet access and then sets up a Wi-fi connection for other users. So you phone can’t connect to the Wi-if as it is already providing the internet connection for the car to provide that Wi-fi.

As already said, any other users might just as well connect to your phone rather than going through the car which only slows things down.

Thanks folks - I had not quite realised how it was set up - all clear now, and as you say, basically a waste of time

cheers

Depends on the services. I have it in my UnMerc, and it's how it picks up /updates speed camera hotspots, live traffic flow, peripheral Nav info (outside of basic routing), etc. Tend to use it on longer journeys, unfamiliar areas, and so on.
