I have 220cdi. 2011. It's got the original battery unbelievably.
Anyway, brake hold and eco have been yellow for years according to the wife.

It's getting sluggish starting recently so I have a new battery in the garage from some other car .
The mercedes has a 80ah 800 cca battery.
I've just put on a 63ah 450 varta battery.

Brake hold and eco has gone green straight away and start stop works. so the battery was clearly dying.
Question is will this 63ah smaller battery be ok for a while ?
Any reason I cant use it ?

The charging system and on board electrics is designed for a battery that is almost twice the capacity than the one you have just fitted so why take the chance that it may cause issues.

The correct battery will not be too expensive so , IMHO , get the correct one , on a cold winter morning your car will think you for it.

If a lesser battery would work then it would have been fitted from new

Check out Tayna batteries online, they do the whole range of top end names but do not overlook the other names you have not heard of. You could be in the wifes good books by Tuesday!

Charging would be ok as the alternator has a regulator.
But the first frosty morning and the glow-plugs kick in then it will kill that battery in no time and you don't want it to let her down do you lol.
