Too much Alcohol + Ebay = £110 spent on useless item !

There is a lesson to be learnt here!!!!

Do you think I'll be able to make it fit with my hammer?

Even a hammer wont make this one work.
The newer radio systems don't come with a code anymore. They communicate with the can-bus of the car.
If you plug it in, it will work for about 15 seconds and then goes dead

You may try to sell on this forum or put it back on Ebay, but I don't think you'll get £110 for it.
just to confirm, it will only fit models W203 and W209 build between 2001 and 2004. Models from 2005 use a different system again.

Radio

This radio is not made just for the 2 cars stated,it came as standard in most of the cars in the range. Fibre optics were mainly started on new models and I cant recall any cars that changed to optics, these first started around 1999.
more info later.

This radio was made for the models mentionned.
Up to 2001, the Audio10 was removed using the 2 flat keys at the front of the unit.
on this model Audio10 (BE6021) there are 2 brackets at the front of the unit that take 2 torx screw to fix it in the car facia.
Mr Television, Do not discredit other forum users if you do not have your facts right.

I did not discredit you, I am sitting here looking at a WIS CD, it will work on a 210,140 for instance as they have a can data bus system. Harman are very helpful E Mail them, I do.

The unit does not fit in a normal DIN slot.
There is a lug sticking out on each side of the radio

In my opinion, No it won't work.
But you can just plug in the leads and see for yourself before you break off anything.

In our repair workshops, we could enter service menu's in order to run them on a bench, these were often accessed by holding down a certain button while powering up. Many car radio manufactures and garages use a local man working from home in their area. Ask your local garage who they use its worth a try as you have bought the redio. Harman becker will not give out this info. In this case it is only a matter disabling the data bus. Malcolm

It's not just getting the radio to work, it's also fitting it in a way that it looks factory fitted in the dash of your Merc.
The radio you are removing has square corners and 2 spring mounted clips on the side of the radio.
The new one you are trying to fit has round corners and is fitted with 2 screws that are factory fitted in the dash of the newer model cars. These screws are hidden behind the removable facia on the dash. That removable facia is not fitted in your car. Also the front of the radio is not flat as on the previous model. It will stick out of the dash by almost an inch.
