mine did this last week, it turned out to be one of the slide mechanism's had just come 'unclicked'
if you watch your sunroof close you will see how when the roof slides forward it actually slides up two 'ramps' that forces the deflector down,if one(or both) of these are disconnected (which is easily done as they are just snapped on) this will stop the deflector closing.
I vaguely remember fiddling with that slidey thingy some years ago, but cannot remember exactly. I do remember it was simple though & Marshies description sounds right.
No sunroof any more (well spose softtop is a big sunroof8) )
