Hi,

I hope someone can help with a very simple question:

I'm in the process of buying an SL500 (2002). -(I'm a complete newbie to this model).

I checked over the car and all seems fine but I can't remember seeing the wind deflector.

I remember popping up the roll bar when we took it for a test drive but we definitely didn't see any sign of a wind deflector or a button to activate it.

My questions:

Is the deflector attached to the roll bar and activated by the same switch?
Is it a separate item activated by a different button to the roll bar?
Does the deflector detach and if so is it possible that it's gone missing?

The "Mrs" was a little upset as her hair took a bit of a pasting so it's becoming a bit of an issue!?!

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

The chances are that it is in the boot, I leave mine on all the time.

In the 230 there is no wind problems,It clips to the roll bar.

Looking
All R129 & R230 SLs should have them - some people sell them on as they're £250 new from MB.

Cheers chaps

OK Great thanks, from the pictures I've seen it looked like it was a clip on item.

So I should find out from the dealer if it still has one (it does appear to be there in the advert photo but it definitely wasn't in the boot), if not I'm looking at £250 from Mercedes?

Thanks again

Incidentally Malcolm the spec on my prospective car is nearly identical to yours!

If you go into the boot there should be a "removable bulk head" - retained by elasticated clasps, looking straight at you. Undo the 3 clasps and the deflector should be behind it.

best of luck

Sorry Bob,not on this one, it comes in a plastic case that is too big to fit into the rear boot, I leave mine on and up, otherewise you cant use the rear parking indicator window.

You really need to get distronic plus, I really don't know how you can drive with the standard distronic, especially as we now have questions on it. ;) :p

Yes my mirrors dim, I am getting the illuminated door sills, the springs on my boot hold mine open. Got no smilies left.
