Hi There
C180 Kom 2003
I had my windscreen replaced by Merc Dealer, Nottingham in December 2006. Since then i notice there is a consider amount of wind noise comming in on the top part of windscreen when i drive 70 mph... the noise getting really loud when i accellerate to 90 mph.

Now i bring the car into the dealer, however, according to their protocal they can only test the car up to 70 mph:confused: . After tested, they say there is no wind noise or anything.

I think this is really stupid, the noise is there and they can not hear it...
I have to book my car in to test it again and it seems that i have to do it again and again until .... they can hear it....

Any advice what to deal with this?

If you wish to drive in other parts of Europe where speed is not limited, then this is unacceptable, or are MB saying your car should only be driven in the UK?
I would have thought a decent dealer would have spent an hour resealing the glass at no charge
They may need a hearing test of course  , but seriously I would complain to MB/DC UK

good luck

Ask them if you can fit cheaper tyres with a low speed rating then, if they're saying you shouldn't drive above 70. I wonder what their answer would be to that one!

Btw, how did they test for noise? did they take it out on the road? if so, they're probably only looking after their licenses.

A simple solution on this is to get a noise meter, take the dealer out with you and sample the noise level at 70mph, then insist you go out in a car of same spec as yours and sample the noise level again. If the ambient noise is higher in your car, you've got proof.

If you do have this test, get a third party to sit with you, someone who is not tied to you or the garage in any way so you have a witness.

I am not sure how they test it... it seems the tech. guy from the dealer only listen by the ear.

Thanks for the suggestion on the noise meter, however, i do not think i can compare my ambient noise level of my car to other C-class model. My car got sport different tyre and stiffer suspension. These thing will produce more road noise than other C class, which would bias the test.

Only thing i can think of, is to take one of the tech guy from dealer with me and drive to 90 mph.... (which im quite sure they do not allow to sit with me... and dejavu...)

About the third party... it might be very difficult to get an expert to sit in my car... ( they might not want to go over 70 mph as well)....again... dejavu...

It is just a license issue I'm sure. To be fair, they can't legally ask one of their techs to break the speed limit, they'd leave themselves wide open.

However, I'm sure you'll find someone who'll sit with you whilst YOU drive it. They're not being deliberately awquard I'm sure, just give them a get-out.

Yeah, I agree with Jberks. Just arse covering which is fair enough. I took my M5 in once because there was a grinding noise when cornering hard to left. They tested it and couldn't hear it. I took the foreman out in it, and he soon got the picture. ;)

Unfortunately, it has been raining alot this week. I will have to wait for the brighter day.

One of the tech guy will be sitting with me next time the car is test.
I also have chance to put some minor misshape of the seal of the driver side of the windscreen. The seal is a bit bend, i can tell when i compare to one of their C class at the dealer. I ll noticfy them next time i pop in.

An air gun pointed close around the screen would show up inside the car.

The other way is to fill the car with water, and see if any comes out of the windscreen

Well regarding the first thing I was serious but wrote it bad.

Take an air line with a pistol (the sort that blows) if this is used to blow air around the seal, you would hear the sounds in the car

Here is the update....
I finally get one of the technician to ride with me. Luckyly, the car was tested on last Friday which was really winddy day. The tech. agreed there was wind noise arround the windescreen. So, I bring my car in to the dealer today for the reseal the windscreen.

They really done better job this time, from the look around the windscreen is was sealed properly, no curve but slightly bump which is acceptable for now.

I will wait for couple days before i go test over 90mph...

btw... the car was not properly wash... it just like they splash it with water and wipe it out... which is down side...and very un professional for a car lover like me...
