The paintwork on my vehicle has not been polished or detailed since new as far as I know, so am about to start the process and will clean and clay the paintwork before polishing but the window surround trim is very mottled (see attached) so tried a small area with both Autoglym Paint Renovator and a Scholl S20 light compound with no effect at all. Neither had any impact so would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions to clean and restore the shine - maybe some type of solvent would work?

You could try autosol but I suspect your trim has an outer plastic layer underneath which is water/cleaners ingress and if that's the case it's either replace trim or wrap them.

Bad design happens on all mercedes cars with that trim. You can buy all sorts of polish but none work.

I would try Autosol as suggested, but would use something like a Dremel with a small polishing wheel to apply it. Start off at low speed. A member on here had success in polishing these but it was very time consuming.

Thanks all - Autosol has been the most effective yet but I would need to spend much, much longer....definitely a design issue I think.
