Hi,

I have G-reg 190E with windows that don't work (front or back) and I'm trying to track down the problem ...

First thing I notice when I look in fuse box is that there is only one relay - is this right? Seems too few ...? And, if there is one missing, what is the correct part, how do I fit etc?

Failing that I've heard there may be an issue with a diode underneath the fuse box ... mean anything to anyone?

Any help much appreciated,

thanks in advance,

Pete

The relay that operates my electric windows a 1986 2.5 diesel is always on when the battery is connected because with the ignition key sitched off, the windows still work.
If you disconnect the + of the battery you should hear a click - the relay goes off. Connect the + again and you hear a click again.
If you do not hear this, it is likely that the relay is not there or that it is out of order.

One thing is certain - if all four do not work it has to do with a supply porblem cause it cannot be that all motors and switches went caput.

So the relay and the fuse are the first things I would check.

On the other hand, could there have been a problem before you bought it in the first place and so they just took off the relay ?

I also need to tell you that unless you know about 12 volt battery circuitry, you should not seek to fix by trial and error - except for replacing fuses with the same rating and putting in a relay if there is'nt one and/or swap with a new one to see if it is the relay itself.

Or else, ask before you do anything as 12 volts circuits use high currents that can burn wires and harnesses - more harm than good sometimes unless you know what yo'r doing.

can it be right that I only have one relay?

Also, how should I go about changing the diode, does anyone know?
