Hi, as it had stopped raining today (at last...) I decided to check the car over ('96 W202) and noticed that the windscreen was covered in petals and pollon. I noticed that the bottom of the windscreen was becoming white.

On investigation, it appears that I have a piece of foam about 4" in length to the right of the wiper mechanism (as you look at the car from the front). I think that this foam strip absorbs the water, and this in turn is getting soaked up inside the bottom of the windscreen turning it white. :-(

I started to take the ducting off around the bottom of the windscreen. The left and right top pieces unclipped with no problem. I then tried to remove the ducting from the bottom of the windscreen by first removing the self tapping screws and then undoing the clips that hold it on to the drainage bins. However, I got stuck trying to undo the clips behind the firewall.

Can anyone please advise:

1. why I have a small peice of foam. Could it be that it was part of a larger piece that went accross the whole of the bottom of the windscreen. Is this foam necessary?

2. How can I unclip the ducting from behind the firewall? Is there a trick of the trade or a special tool?

Thanks in advance.
