Ive just had a replacement windscreen fitted to my w129 sl. Its a 1994 model. The thing is there is a place in the screen to view the chassis No but the chassis number does not show through. I cant exactly remember if there was a chassis number on the screen of the car but now it looks like there should be one and its missing.....maybe a slight worry when selling the car.

Can anyone with a similar age sl advise if there is a chassis no in this position??

Not sure about yours..but during the 90s there was a lot of consternation about would be thieves getting the chassis nos from cars and then obtaining a spare key from the dealers and stealing the car...so it was abandoned for a while, until the id thinggy kicked in..

I had the windscreen changed on my car six months ago, when they cleaned the surround they rubbed over the vin number leaving it with a odd colored background, when the screen was fitted it looked like the vin had been tampered with. I ordered a replacement one from Mercedes (about £9) and attached to a piece of card and lowered down the back of the dash into perfect position. If you want the part number to explain the bit you need I still have the receipt some where.
