Hi

My windscreen wash on my W210 99 Eclass has stopped working and this has happened before and I think it is because the fluid freezers and I think the pipe has been blown off. Im trying to find a guide so that I can do this myself? Any ideas?

Cheers

Johno

Hi Johno,
Had a freinds car (210) do the same last week, under the bonnet you will find a panel with push clips all round and a screw at each end, remove the screws and undo the clip all the way round the panel, some under sound deading, that dropps away, then the washer jets are under another very small panel, to undo these you have to hook out the little blocks to release the jet, refit the pipe and if poss get a clip round the pipe, simple job takes 10 min, hope some help.

I would say AND definitely up the concentrate level for the depths of winter. Personally I (and I suspect many other motorists ), run a cyclical regime of very high levels of concentrate in winter, reducing right down in summer. I've been out early on the motorway in my youth in bright sun but minus 12 degrees. You should have seen the cars on the hard shoulder that simply couldn't see through a salty screen, with washers all froze up!

And don't forget, after adding screen wash stuff to your tank, you'll need to operate your washers for a good few seconds to get the anti-freeze solution through the pipework all the way to the nozzles.

While we're on the subject of winter screenwash, what's your favourite?

Mine is Decosol which is highly concentrated so you can still dilute it at 4:1 or 3:1 even at the lowest temperatures we get in the middle of the UK, it cleans the screen well, doesn't foam all over the place and is reasonably priced. Only trouble is, it's sometimes a bit tricky to get hold of.

MB do a frost protection additive to ADD to the screenwash solution that's already in the reservoir. I don't quite understand this, does anybody else?

I think that the additive MB offer is because the normal screen wash was made to dissolve dirt and fies and not any freezing issues

Having done a search I've come back to good old iso propyl alcohol. I've got about 8 litres in the garage I was given. Is it really miscible with water, and if so in what concentration?

Hi

My indie recommends using MB brand screen wash because it is more effective than cheaper makes which can, under certain circumstances, clog the jets.

Yes, I think that's the conclusion I'm coming too. Presumably you have to have both MB screen wash and MB frost protection as well to get best compatibility?

I have MB screen was and MB Anti-Freeze additive. It's been v-cold around here the last couple of days & my car has been the first to clear of any. No issues with freezing screen wash or scrapping. Much nice to sit in the car with the seat heaters on watching everyone else scrape their windows.

Hi David

'MB frost protection' ... am I missing something? This isn't antifreeze, is it? I don't think I've come across 'MB frost protection' before. Is it an additive?

Thanks for that Blobcat. That's why I've never heard of 'MB Frost Protection'. I just pour in the correct amount of concentrate and never bother to read what's on the bottle.

MB dealers were selling kits off cheap with all of these things in, and I got a scraper with MB logo on it, I will never use it, as we do not get a frost here as of yet ;)
