Hi
I have a small problem my windscreen wipers they stop working if they have been used for about an hour. Then after about half an hour they come back to life. It seems to me its like some sort of thermal overheat protection that cuts out when too warm then cools down and thewipers work again.
Does anyone have any clues to what the fault is.
Or is it just a new wiper motor.
The car is a e 270 cdi W211.
Thanks

This could just as well be the control unit at fault, I will try and find where it is later in the day

Most of the Bosch motors have a thermal cutout inside the casing, you can do very little to repair them except the risky move of shorting it out.
The switch may be faulty but also the mechanical parts being tight will overload the motor and the switch is only doing its job.
Clean and lubricate the mechanism as a first step, also if the motor sees a lower supply voltage the current may just rise above the normal level due to the motor running slow and causing the cutout to switch off due to electrical overload. Clean the connections at each point on the wiring while it is in bits.

I had a similar problem with my ML, the wipers would work (but not as fast as they should) and after a while they'd stop and then restart again after a rest period, eventually they packed up altogether and i had to replace the motor.

ps..... i first checked the spindles and mechanism for any stiffness but it was all working freely.

The mechanism does need to be lubricated, or the motor will fail
