Windshield scuttle W203

Looking for help on my 15 year old C Class. Drivers foot well flooded after few days of heavy rain. After cleaning out all drains from scuttle I noticed a hole in the scuttle on drivers side which did not look right to me. This is above the hood release grommet and water appears to be dripping from the red release lever. Could anyone who has this model compare mine as shown in photo. Should the hole be smaller or not there at all?

In addition, the diagnostic lamp came on at the first drive and has remained on. Guess could be water damage in the electrics. Not had the codes read yet.

Looks to me like something got between wiper arm and scuttle a wiper sweep trapped it and that broke yr plastic?

Looks like the point of entry could be the grommet, mine is visibly cracked. Intend to get some sealant on. Interesting that the seam along the top of the wing funnels directly onto the grommet and a gap in the scuttle is directly over this spot.
